Is it possilbe to use 2 routers in 2 different phone sockets?

Basically, we have 2 routers at home, a wireless one and a wired on. We have 2 PCs at opposite ends of the house and if the wireless router is in the study my bedroom PC cant see it and vice versa. My mum is really against having wires everywhere hence the reason we bought a wireless router to replace the wired one.

As this hasnt helped could i plug the wired router into the phone socket in my bedroom and keep the wireless one in the study and use it for laptops and stuff down that end of the house. I'm asking as we have just moved and the wired router is somewhere in a storage unit miles away otherwise i would try this myself. I use my PC primarily for gaming so dont really want to be on a wireless connection if possible.

I can't find any info on this on google so thought i'd ask here.

    nope.

if you have a phone socket next to your machine, plug the wireless router in there, wire your pc to it, then use the other machine wirelessly. Are you using craptacular little usb dongles? If so get some proper cards with good aerials, otherwise, look into homeplug networking

No you can't have two routers connected to the same phone line (in different sockets) although of course you could physically connect both as long as one or the other is turned off when not in use. You could of course use two routers on two seperate lines (e.g. different phone numbers).

that seems rather alot... just route a cable from the wireless router to where the computers the wired router plugs into, and use a switch there...

A friend at work has installed 3 HomePlugs, 1 to connect an ethernet port from his Router, one for a PC and one for his XBox 360 and he is VERY please with the results.
Try to make each and every day the best it can be.

Yeah these puppies do work well (especially the 85mbps+ models) but as you all agree they are pricey! So it depends on how much you are prepared to spend... Obviously the better the quality of yours mains supply / wiring / equipment plugged in etc the better the results. I am looking forward to seeing how good the new Homeplug AV units @ 200mbps actually are

well it will probably be my parents who pay as they are the ones who don't want cabling all round the house. All the wiring in the house is new, so presumably this would work. Just need to investigate what i need and where to get it from. thanks for the help guys

Have a look at the netgear XE104 (which is a 4 port switching version of the 85mbps variety). They are here: http://www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk/Shop...ProductID=2813

You will see that they are listing the new 200mbps Homeplug AV kit here: http://www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk/Shop...ProductID=3477 with a stock due date of the 13th of this month... Bit pricey tho tbh...

Those homeplug 200 Mbps jobbies run at about 45 Mbps and the 85's at about 20 Mbps.
Which is pretty damn good problem is they are £90 each. You can pick them up for
    £35 each

You could get a directional wireless thing. such as

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=167184

I have one of those and it works very well.
