Quick question, Wireless Access Points (WAP)

We currently have a wired network, three PCs, one server, one printsever, and a BT voyager Router.
    - Just about to get a laptop, and hence planning to extend the network wirelessly to said laptop (which will have a built in wireless)

I dont know much about wireless, but as far as i do know, i want to get a WAP, plug that into the (8port netgear) switch, do a bit of twidding, and start broadcasing wireless-ness all over the place. Then sort out some network security, and make sure it all still works! Right?

And after a little bit of reseach, this one "Netgear WG602 54G Access Point" seams to be as good as any others, and reasonablly-ish priced.
    - I basicaly picked it becuase it seams to be fairly relieable and simple/easy to use. This is more important that price. I'd rather get somthing decent than save £10 on somthing thats going to be pain to set up all its life!

    Thanks, Daniel

Yeah sounds good, get your AP setup and then make sure your laptop can see it... Then secure the AP and set the laptop up for a secure connection. Test it and make sure it works, then your pretty much done.

Make sure you use at least 128bit WEP, if possible WPA encryption - make your wireless network semi secure

seriously, all encryption can be cracked, any stops idle passers by from connecting to your network (like me ) but any kind of person who can be bothered to crack your network will just take a little longer with higher level security

    - Ill have a read about wireless sercurty, but tbh, we live right out in the sticks, so there only about three houses that would be inreach anyway, and we know them all quite well!
