can't send anything through new network!

I'v had to revert back to my dial-up 'Slow-dem' to be able to come and post on here again...I am unable to send emails through outlook express or by actually going to my yahoo account (or in fact ANY of my email accounts!)
and (some what more tragically) I cannot post comments on hexus() I write stuff out, click 'post' and then it twiddles away for ages (bearing in mind I was trying this with a bb connection so it should be v.fast) i then get a returned 'cannot find page' or similar...

I'm using a Buffalo Airstation G54 and several computers off it (wirelessly): a Dell laptop, two desktops and an iBook, ALL suffer the same problem. the download stream is fine - its the upload stream I'm having problems with.

any one out there able to offer any ideas or able to help I'd be most grateful

    upstream?
    cloned mac addy correctly?

should be fine if you can see a page tbh
security settings? sending information to a server etc?

can't think of anything else but sounds like a router security setting to me

how do i get rid of such a virus? i'v got norton with all the latest giggery-pokery going on all the time...
its also things like filling out forms etc. as though I want to buy something on-line e.g. amazon, but i can't...again i'd enter info but it just spins away for ages and then comes back as no good...

i'v played with the security settings as often as i dare (baring in mind the others on the mini-network i have, my bro has done quite a bit of it too, how do i clone this mac addy thing properly? i figured the computer searches for available networks, you chose which one you want and it goes from there.

I highly doubt it's a virus. A few weeks ago, I had a problem similar to what you are describing - I was unable to post to Hexus. Then LiveJournal stopped working (It had worked previously, while unable to post to Hexus). Throughout it all, I was still able send email (I use Yahoo!Mail exclusively). After ruling out a problem on Hexus' side (After few emails between David and myself), I determined it had to be a problem with my ISP. Thinking a bit, I realized the only thing I'd recently changed was using a new POP for my ISDN (Faster for gaming than other POPs? Lies). Switched back to the old POP, and everything worked again.

I don't believe you have any problem with upstream at all. Remember, when you browse a site, your browser has to send data to request it in the first place. If there were an upstream problem, browsing would be painfully slow, if it worked at all. Do you use IRC or any messaging programs? Do they also have problems? I suspect not. In this case, the only area with which you are experiencing problems is HTTP connections, and the only thing (I think) that could cause problems exlcusively for HTTP is transparent HTTP proxies at your ISP. My ISP, sadly, also has these. Dialing a different POP probably sent my HTTP through a different proxy. How can you test this theory? Use a anonymizing HTTPS proxy (HTTPS connections are not handled by your ISP's proxy, as it would defeat the point of security). As far as I can find, https://www.amegaproxy.com/ does what we're looking for - it allows you to browse other sites through their HTTPS server on their free basic service. I'm not sure whether or not it will allow you to log into Hexus or the like, which rely on cookies, but it's worth a try.

So, say using the anonymizing HTTPS proxy solves the problem, the next step would be to ring up your ISP and light some fire under them. You shouldn't mention that you're running on a wireless network for the same reason that you shouldn't mention you're using Linux to dial into your ISP (As is the case with internet sharing OSes like Smoothwall) - the technical support monkies will immediately insist the fault is on your side and disclaim all liability for the problem, seeing as they are not trained in such "complex" setups.

Hope this helps. Please excuse any typos and the run-on-ish paragraphs - I just finished a 3-day LAN on 6 hours of sleep.

Don't leave me hanging! I see you're posting again, so did my solution work? Or what was the problem?

Use some kind of netbandwidth incoming and outgoing monitor to see what traffic is running such as Netstat/analogX or if its dialup/USB ADSL then Dunmon (dial up networking monitor) [put these in google] is fine to see whats going on.

As for email - you need to test another program than just OE.
