Is it bad idea to have windows firewall enabled with another third party software firewall enabled with netgear router firewall enabled?
Two software firewalls is definitely a bad idea. Some software firewalls (NVIDIA's, for example) will turn the windows firewall off only on the network interface they work on, leaving other interfaces protected. However, generally, only use one, if you are going to use one.
If you aren't going to use one, just stick with the Windows firewall. It's rather simple, but for most that means it doesn't cause any trouble and it's not annoying like some firewalls that react "OMG a program just sent a packet of data, what should I do?" every five seconds.
Apologies for the cynicism.
The Windows firewall only attempts to block incoming packets (so is only half as affective as it could be) whereas the likes of Zonealarm (which disables the windows firewall by default) will analyse traffic in both directions. A combination of software and hardware is the best choice IMHO.

I kind of knew it was wrong because it sounded wrong(lol), but thanks a lot for clearing things up for me. I have to do something about it, it's got seriously messed up.
I believe that the Windows Firewall coupled with the NetGear firewall is good enough, but if you really want a third party software firewall on you machine(s) Turn OFF the windows firewall - only run 1 software firewall.
Same story for AV, whereas different "spyware" scanners will sit alongside each other on the same machinr, only ever run one AntiVirus (and I recommend Nod32).
Try to make each and every day the best it can be.
I have a slightly complicated setup, involving a netgear ADSL router (inc firewall), then another netgear router (not adsl but good wireless), then to my PC which has Zonealarm (5.5 as I hate 6).
In terms of protection, from the various tests you can do, i seem to be pretty well protected (i check the various logs periodically and Zonealarm has virtually nothing registered inbound, apart from occasional things from addresses registered to my ISP LOL).
The only interesting thing was the various port forwardings needed for things like online Diablo 2 (yes, i still play it) and Teamspeak. Always fun. What really didnt help was when my uncle (who knows more about networking than I) set it up, and disabled my second hardware firewall. Little did I realise that you need the firewall working and active to be able to set up rules and port forwarding!
As a note, Zonalarm 5.5 does automatically disable windows firewall, but occasionally windows security centre will 'alert' me that i have no firewall (but it's not correct). I think microsoft does like non-microsoft programs, for some reason
