    Phone keeps ringing constantly

No one can get throught to me and I still have dial tone, but there is a very noticable crackle on the line. ADSL speeds have dropped off slightly by about half a meg or so.

It started just before I left for work this morning and I didn't have the time to check everything out. But I'm thinking maybe a filter has died, possibily?

I seem to remember reading someplace that this kind of fault occurs when you DON'T have any filters plugged into the line not when you do. Ergo: duff filter.

Anyone have any suggestions for things to try for when I get home tonight?

unplug every phone, filter and extension. Then start connecting everything one by one. I would start with one filter and your router to see what you connect at. If it is still unusually low. that might indicate a problem with the line.

Problem solved. It was the filter that had gone up the spout after all. I slammed in a new one and everything is hunky dorey again

Cheers for getting back to me Funkstar.

no probs. phone line issues can be a great big PITA.

My parents phone died recently, yet ADSL still worked. Turned out it was a break in the cable at the pole in their garden. Must have been the power pair that the phones relies on rather than the signal that ADSL uses. Earliest appointment for an engineer was two weeks after the falt was reported.
