My wi-fi's erratic signal strength from stationary position...

Hi, i dont know whats affecting this...

every now and again, some days as often as every 5 mins my wireless network cuts off client pcs, and this is what shows up on the connection control panel:



Normally the IP is 192.168.1.1xx

But what confuses me is that the client pcs (all laptops) are completely stationary and so is the router, so how does the signal go for "excellent" to "low" to "very good" to "limited connectivity"??

we dont have a cordless phone and the router is sitting about 6inches above a radiator in the lounge away from other appliances

Other people living close by with Wifi setups (not on all the time so you only notice it occaisionally).

You could try moving to one or other of the channels at the far end e.g. channel 1 or 11 and seeing if that improves matters (assuming you are on channel 6 now).

Its a Linksys router, i think its on channel 6 right now, i thought 11 was default?

Try chan 1 is far enuff down the spectrum not to be messed with by a lot of other kit.

If changing the channel doesn't help you might need to build a metal cage around your house to prevent interference. It can just be metal mesh if you can't get solid panels.
