You need to turn on uPnP to get it back
Right click on local area connection, select properties and tick the box that says something like "show icon when connected", this should put it back in your task bar.
Ah, see I was thinking you meant the Icon in Network Connections representing your gateway - to enable that you need to turn on uPnP. If you want the icon by the clock on the taskbar, do as teachmech says
i have internet gateway too, what is the purpose of this status icon ? via my netgear dg384g adsl modem wireless router with talktalk 1mb adsl
UPnP is enabled but the icon still isn't showing
Windows Firewall/any other firewall you have running might be blocking the ports. Try disabling them and see if it appears - if so you've found the problem
Disable windows firewall as suggested above, should appear again
