BT Yahoo Broadband

Just ordered BT Yahoo Broadband and they say modem and stuff will be delivered 'by' the 2nd Jan 2004! Hope it comes sooner though! My Dad mentioned something about not being able to use two comps at the same time on it? Can't understand why though? Perhaps they mean that they are only sending one modem and you need another one for the second comp to get both online at the same time...

Anyone have BT Broadband setup with more than 1 comp? What do you need? How easy is it?

if you network the PCs you should be able to use the net on them both at the same time

Unless like AOL broadband it uses proprietory software to connect but that can be circumvented using AnalogX proxy

Hmm, not sure about that. I'm new to networking so was thinking about using a hub to connect the cable modem to, and then I could connect both pc's to that hub. That would then enable both computers to access the net at the same time right?

But on BT's site it says about connecting both pc's to phone lines with microfilters on making up a basic network. I'll have to check it out again!

afaik BT modems are USB so ICS will not work

Crap, I'll have to buy a ADSL router then won't I, so I can plug all the computers into it?

ICS will work if you use a proxy.

dead easy and free to use only prob is the gatway PC has to be on for the other to use the net

I have got BT as my ISP (well until the 23-12-03 anyway) I just use basic ICS. USB moden plugged into one pc and share the connection using ICS. no need for any proxy programs.

But I am pretty sure however, they're are going down the same route as AOL with their crappy software, you need to use to connect up. If that is the case, like mgh0 said, use a proxy like analogX.

I have never setup anything like AOL (or anyone that uses proprietory software) through a dsl router before. Will that work? If so, how??

BT Yahoo don't use propriatery software, they just have the custom browser which you can download if you want to. The service will work fine even if you don't.
