    Patch Pannel

    Hi,

I've had a CAT 5e network installed in my new house however i now need a patch panel and switch to finish it off.

There are 14 CAT 5e (gigabit) cables to sort out.

I have no idea what to be looking for in a patch pannel and switch and dont want to be spending too much but at the same time want something which runs smoothely and reliably.

The router i will be using is a NETGEAR WPN824 RangeMax

    Thanks! Neil

sounds like a job for a 16-port patch panel. can't find any non-rack ones on a quick search though

you'll need a punch-down tool to make the connections (don't just use a screwdriver, whatever anyone says)

    for a switch? any 16-port gige switch will do - e.g. http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/62292

You should be able to get everything you need from there. basic plasit punch down tools cal be had for about £1, and the proper ones that clip off the excess wire are pretty cheap too these days.

you will be better of with a proper insulation displacement tool if you are going to term 14 cat cables
