Xmas Present ideas. 4yr and 1.5yr old boys

My four year old is not so difficult as I can find something i want to make and do it with him. I'm tracking a few lego pirate ships atm which look brilliant but may be out of our price range. We don't buy our kids much toy wise for the rest of year (apart from b'days) so its my chance to really spoil them.

What other sets look fun? there is a mining set (not sure), police station (he's not big on police), Spaceship (may be okay but a lot of propriatry pieces), the star wars ships look okay but they don't do it for me.

My youngest is proving very difficult; he is the destroyer of the two and I'm lost. It has to be indestructable but intricate enough to keep him amused. He likes climbing and sitting in small spaces. I'm tempted to just give him a cardboard box.

Any ideas or what you've chosen for similar age groups would be welcome.

Second hand wooden train set/additional trains/track for the 4-year old.

Stacking cups/blocks for the 1.5yr old

We have a duplo train set with loads of tracks but we can't use it because no. 2 will dismantle it faster than we can build it. He has a tendancy to abuse the electric train; we're hoping he'll grow out of it soon and then we can make something. Great idea though.

We've got stacking cups and they are a great toy; he's got a russian doll thing too made out of spheres which split in the middle.

A variant on the train idea is a train track book a bit like this one:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Farmyard-Tal...=cm_cr_pr_pb_t

The tracks are different pages of the book.

I just picked up a couple of Playmobil toy advent calendars - not exactly presents but they get 24 days of small treats before hand

If your four year old likes the wooden brio stuff. What about other small world items, such as a farm set? Dinosaurs etc. Kid K'nex is fab stuff, a great alternative to lego, and great for enhancing that logical development. Playdough and creative stuff is always a winner

As for the toddler, they love noisy things and bright things. Shape sorters and inset puzzle boards. Wooden blocks and manipulation toys and anything they can push/pull to help motor development as toddlers can be quite unsteady on their little legs at that age.

Good luck and would love to know what you finally choose for your little ones
