    Wales trip recommendations

I've only been to Wales a few times for work but never for leisure.
I didn't get to see much but enjoyed the roads.

I'm planning a 5/6 day trip at the beginning of July for just the two of us so thought I'd ask where people might recommend.

The initial plan is to start in the North and work our way to the South so we're trying to cram as much in as possible rather than remaining in one area for a week. I may be able to add a couple more days to the trip

Unfortunately we won't be doing anything physical like rock climbing or kayaking which obviously Wales is renowned for.
Some walking, boat rides or similar will be fine from a physical aspect.
I haven't had a real Welsh rarebit before so if any foodies have some recommendations to try something different.

    Thanks

    Re: Wales trip recommendations

We just got back from a week in north Wales.

In the north I can recommend the tram on the great orme. I like to start at the top so you can get the tram down and then walk around the town a bit then get it back up as there isn't much to do up at the top except walking.

Also the Welsh Mountain zoo is nice but very pricey and the restaurant isn't up to much.

The castle and harbour at Conwy are nice and there is a sightseeing boat trip there.

In terms of food, salt marsh lamb is nice if you find a restaurant serving it.

    Re: Wales trip recommendations

I would agree with the above, there is a rather windy crazy golf on the top the great orme.

Wales trip recommendations: don't go. Overrated, usually bad weather, full of speed cameras and a ridiculous speed limit. I have family there. Visiting is a PITA.

    Re: Wales trip recommendations

    Thanks guys.

So in the end trying to do a north and south visit was too optimistic and would have meant I would be mostly driving for 5 days and not much else.

So thanks to Kanoe and a friend of mine we'll spend 2 nights in Llandudno, and then a log cabin for 3 nights in Trawsfynydd whilst visiting some places 'en route and in-between. Randomly on the final day heading back we'll make a trip to the Southampton Thai festival...

Really wish I'd upgraded my camera for this year, but never mind!

    Re: Wales trip recommendations

Llanbedr is nice, great little pub on the bridge. Roads inland lead to Cwm Buchan and Cwm Nantcol, some waterfalls there too. Other way to the sea is Mochras, Shell Island.

Forget Barmouth, touristy, but Harlech is nice and the castle is certainly worth a visit. Porthmadog is also a bit touristy but a pleasant afternoon out.
    Cheers, David

    Re: Wales trip recommendations

We're also off for a week soon, in the Abergwynant area...

Any recommendations for things to do with kids aged 3-5 years old?
We can travel for an hour or so to reach places.
