Which motherboard for the E4300??

I'm thinking about buying an Intel E4300 CPU since it's known to be very overclockable. What is your advice in which motherboard to get for this CPU? I know that the ASUS p5b and the ones from Gigabyte are good. Can anyone offer any suggestions for a good match for overclockability? Thanks a lot.

I have been having this same dliemna for about a week (except im going E6400) and finally settled on this: http://www.yoyotech.co.uk/product_in...4877b926520b76 yesterday.

I really wanted to go ABIT not ASUS but ABIT just has nnothing to compare with this atm.
It has the lot...not cheap but seems the business.

i seem to be missing the whole e4300 overclocks well bit.


it has an 800fsb so the extra overclock speed surely you would lose in memory bandwidth and such

You don't need a stonking board and RAM to get a 4300 to similar speed that you would for the 6300.

The 4300 has an 9x multi, so you don't need the high-end components needed to achieve the same speed you usually would with the 6300. It's essentially an E6600 with half the cache. With the 4300 the FSB is quite irrelevant, as if you're overclocking, you'll be upping it.

With the 4300 you'll only need a board that can do 333MHz on the FSB to reach 3.0GHz, but with the 6300 you'll need to be able to hit a FSB of 428MHz to reach the same overclock.

These are clocking well in the "normal suspects" - Gigabyte S3/DS3/DS4 and the ASUS P5B. Results with the NVidia chipsets are very mixed. Some go very well, some not so well.

Yeah, I would opt for the DS3.

Or if you want a more feature packed board go with a P5B Deluxe or the AB9 Pro

Thanks for all the replies! Yes, there was one more thing about the motherboards - the chipsets. I've been researching about the diffferent chipsets (Intel vs. Nvidia). Is it true that the Intel chipsets are better for overclocking and are more stable?

ds3 is good for cheapest, not necessarily thats a lot because of the P5B being a monster overclocker
