    Final decision was in. I went for one of these new LG 22" panels;
    LG L226WT-SF, Widescreen LCD
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=564708

    and 320MB XFX 8800GTS
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=545084

    Should keep me ticking over. If later in the year when DX10 games come more prevelent I'll replace the base until with something more appropriate.

    I reckon that's a sensible decision, totalling under 400 quid, that will bring you bang up to speed in terms of games playing.

    I also think that the 320MB version was a good match to the 1680 x 1050 resolution - higher resolution might have warranted more graphics memory.

    Yeah - Following from both yours and other comments in this thread I figured im not loosing anything by just upping the monitor and GPU in the interim. This has cost me next to nothing in the end as I'll sell on my VX912 panel and 7800GT. Cheers MSIC.

    Well, it will support lower if you really want it to.
    But 1680 x 1050 is the normal, expected maximum resolution for a monitor of this size.

    For 24" and 27" monitors it tends to be 1920 x 1200.

    LCD panels do have a concept of "native resolution", which they are best used at.

    Some are better than others at running at lower than native resolution.

    yes i do know about native res.

    i would have thought it was higher as you can run 1600 1200 on a 20 inch??
