    Problem With Dell Laptop

I have a friend who's laptop's just died and I know nothing about laptops so I thought I'd ask hexus for help. She was just using the laptop and it completely switched off by itself. Now the external power supply is working as the green light is on it, but there are no signs of life on the laptop itself, when you push the on button nothing happens. I said it could be a problem with the battery, but if it was plugged directly into the mains would a batter problem still stop it from booting?

It's a second hand Dell laptop, she says it might be under warrenty but if it is the receipts etc will be at home. Are there any things we could try?

you say nothing happens - you tried hooking it up to an external monitor?
You could also try removing the battery completely and booting from mains

It doesn't seem as if there's any power getting to it as there are no green lights on as there were before, I'll try removing the battery and powering it from mains later. In the mean time does anyone else have any other suggestions

Take every type of power source out of it (external power, battery, secondary battery), leave it for a bit, then plug it all back in and try it again.

Check the battery, depending on the model it might have a charge indicator where you bress a little pad on the battery and it lights up to show if you have any juice in the cells, the ones we support at work get major problems at times, it has been know for a dead cell in a battery to cause complete lock down on the laptop in terms of powering up.

Depending on your model will mean if you can power without a battery in the laptop.

    Re: Problem With Dell Laptop

Can you go into a bit more detail.

When you say first page do you mean The bios ( A black screen with a large Dell logo on it. or while the Operating System is loading. ?
