If you're running '2x256 2700', then Im guessing you mean PC2700?

If Im right then you can't just change to DDR2, you can only run DDR1, 184 pin.

What motherboard and CPU is this for?

Use the scanner tool on this site, it'll tell you what type of memory you can use in your PC (or should do anyway). From there you can see what your upgrade options are (if any!)

"Supports DDRII667 and DDR400 (DDRII and DDR are supported separately)"

Interesting that your board supports DDR 1&2. You will have to ditch your DDR1 memory and replace it with 2 x 512Mb or 2 x 1Gb. You only need PC5400 but you should also be OK with anything upto PC6400.

For £46.99 you could get this:

    2Gb

So 2Gb high quality RAM under your budget specified. What are you waiting for?
