Check out the other thread, just above this one.
It depends on what you want and what type of motherboard you have. If it's a nForce one then you'd probably be better off sticking with the onboard soundstorm and saving the money you'd spend on a card, using it toward the speakers instead.
I'm not entirely sure what the THX certification means, apart from the speakeres meet certain output requirements or something.
Just do a search or browse old threads and you should find out.
For speakers I'd have a butchers at Creative's and Logitech's pages and see what best suits your budget and needs. Then return here if you have any questions! I'm sure most of the sets on those pages are owned by people on here.

Depends on how HARDCORE you are. If you want crappy 30w satellites and a naff sounding sub, go to dixons. I mean depending on ur budget ur best bet is a latest creative soundcard like the Audigy 2 or something, not really looked at them myself. But I have my computer hooked up to my stack system, 10x better sound quality and its so easy to connect up.
If ur a audio geek and can tell the difference between and analogue sound and digital one, u belong at NASA.
Again depending on ur budget, and the ergonomics of ur computer desk, I'd advise u to get a seperate amp/reciever and connect it to ur bookshelf speakers. it can all be connected with an analogue to L + R phono lead. ( or something like that, dunno the proper name for it) lol.
Signatures are stupid
teh THX cert is pretty meaningless as all PC speakers (even the creative megaworks sets) pale in comparison to even a cheap (£200) A/V reciever + speakers, especially when turned up loud. And loud is where you want to go if your spending over £100 on speakers. You really do want digital connection, whilst at normal volumes you probly wont hear any dif (well i cant) when you put it up loud, if you have a semi-decent speaker set the sound will still come out crystal clear - on analogue its never quite as good (depending mainly on you cables and the quality of your soundcards DAC (digital to analogue decoder). Anther plus for digital is that you can have full Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound from your pc. This is a real plus if you watch DvDs on it or play action games. (just try COD on a digital 5.1 setup, it fkin owns)
So for speakers goto somewhere like richersounds or even your local co-op department store and get a home cinema system (check it has digital in first tho) You can get a 600w sharp system (ie what i have) for £230 inc a free dvd player
as for soundcard the NVidia Soundstorm is indeed one of the best consumer sound solutions atm if you have it, it matches or even betters the Audiogy 2 (when using digital) and its 'free' if you have an nforce2 ultra. If you havn't got one then get an audiogy 2, next best thing.
hope this helps you
