    Thermalright Ultima-90

Anybody using one of these? What are your thoughts? What fan are you using with it?

Want to keep my q6600 as kool as posible without having a nightmare witha heatsink and fan.

Looks like my ideal heatsink as it's not to heavy or tall and it comes with what looks like an easier installation than the usual intel push pin, didn't enjoy that experience at all.

I've got one, but am awaiting a suitable motherboard, I'll be attaching it to a Q6600 G0. Put a silent 120 mm fan on it and you're good to go, Scythe S-FLEX, Noctua NF-S12 1200 would be reasonable choices, go cheaper if you want, friend of mine recently got a 120mm Akasa AK-174BK-S and he's happy enough with it's performance.

    Re: Thermalright Ultima-90

I've had a good ole fiddle about with it and it's all straight forward enough. Package is nice and compact (as you'd expect), comes with folded A4 double sided graphical instruction sheet, you can't really go wrong, it's pretty clear. You'll be impressed with the size of thing, cracking piece of engineering. Looking forward to getting a suitable X38 DDR2 board now...only thing stopping me from giving you a full review.

I'll give you a review when my new Abit I35Pro and Q6600 G0 arrive. Mine came pre-lapped at an extra cost of $15 (£7.50). Gotta love American pricing.

Using an S-Flex 1600rpm with a Sunbeamtech Rheobus so I should be able to say what different fan speeds do to the cooling performance.

    Re: Thermalright Ultima-90

Made it to the States, huh, that where ya been. Have fun, it's different

I emailed Thermalright support the other day regarding the Ultima-90 / 90i tags and was told there was no difference between the two. They originally planned an A model for AMD, and an I model for Intel but it was decided to include the installation hardware for both.

So one would assume that the early ones with the rough base that were reported, were in fact early production models. I'd email "Bob" again, but I don't like bothering him so much

    Re: Thermalright Ultima-90

Does this come with the push pins to attach it to the motherboard or does it come with the backplate?

Getting confused as there is the ultra 90 and the ultima 90.

    Re: Thermalright Ultima-90

Backplate - 775/AM2 bracket mount, etc etc.

and it's the Ultima-90 you want and we're talking about

    Re: Thermalright Ultima-90

They are the same price as the Ultra 120 (non extreme) and apparently perform similar. So you have the choice of:
smaller, lighter and 6 pipes or
    larger, heavier and 4 pipes.

    Re: Thermalright Ultima-90

AnandTech conclusion waffle: In virtually every measurement the Ultima-90 was at least the equal of all the top-tier coolers, matching or outperforming the Tuniq 120, Thermalright Ultra-120, Scythe Infinity with push-pull fans, and the Scythe Ninja Plus B/OCZ Vindicator running a high output SilenX IXTREME fan.
