    DVD writers

I'm curious as to what you guys think the best DVD writer out is ? (Only catch is, it must be dual format, so -/+)

Ideally i want to you talk from first hand experience and not just replies of "I think xyz is best because i read it on a review site".

Seen a few posts here and on other forums, and there seems to be so much disagreement.

    go for it

I've had my pioneer 106 for about 3 months now... I've have had no problems with it whatsoever. The reason why I went for this one at the time was the price (although its alot cheaper now) and the fact that a friend of mine recomended it to me

Ive got the NEC ND-1300a (4x dvd) and its great, constantly being updated to use the latest discs etc.

The newer 8x NEC is out now for £97 ish. Havent read any reviews on it yet but im sure it will be just as good.

I've got a LiteOn 8x drive (+R 8x, -R 4x though a firmwire update is rumoured to be coming out soon to make it -R 8x too).

Very good drive, superb fault-handling and very fast. Excellent for backing up copy-protected stuff. Also burns CDs at 40x, which is very rare. I've yet to burn a DVD or CD that hasn't worked.

Got it from dabs.com for £115. It's probably cheaper now.

One vote here for the Sony DRU530A 8x writer. I haven't actually burned any DVDs yet though!

Can't comment on dual format writers, but my Pioneer 105 has been very good/reliable - no probs at all. I would like to upgrade to a Plextor (cos of the support) but it costs too much at the moment!
