X38 vrs X48.... or should i got NVidia

For my new desktop build, i'm going to be using a couple of MTRON SSDs (Flash hard drives if you like).

But as has been reported there are major issues with the ICH9 (and suggested they might still be present on the ICH10!) mainly in terms of bottlenecking the SATA.

So i need either a motherboard thats nVidia chipset, or that has an aditional RAID controller on it already, or put one in on the PCI-X myself (but as anything better than the ICH9 one costs £100....)

Oh and if your woundering why i love the MTRONs

I know all about them, but they're insanely expensive and IMO just too small at present. If they were 64Gb at the same price I might be tempted to a couple.

    I'd pay £400 for a 32gig volume, that could do 200MB/sec.

And a fool and their money

Its just a question of if i should use the nVidia chipset or the x38, don't think i can wait till x48.

So who knows of any good x38 boards that have nice RAID controllers on board (in adition to the ICH9 ones).

nVidia RAID is generally reckoned to have lower transfer rates than Intel Matrix so I would have thought that it was probably a worse solution for you.
A hardware RAID card may be best but then X38 supposedly has some issues with some RAID cards Fudzilla - Intel X38 chipset has PCIe problems .
However, there are some people on XS running X38s with RAID cards (Arecas & the like).

X48 final engineering boards are about right now. I would expect X48 to be available in 2 months. The issue may be resolved as the X48 BIOS will be patched on to the X38 in due course. They are after all nearly identical.

Thanks for that Buff, i'll make sure if i get a RAID card add-on that i go a 16x or, find one thats used on an x38 already.

This is the thing, i was looking at the x48 'features'...... can't see anything that makes me want to wait in all honesty. Might as well just by a Q6600 G0.

The ASUS Maximus Extream is really tempting me now.

check anandtech, seems with a hotfix or 2 they have broken the 80mb/sec problem.
