SN45G and Ati 9700 Pro problems

Ok....bit of a problem.....I'm building a new rig.....as per the title its a Shuttle SN45g and an Ati 9700 Pro,
The problem is that with the extra power lead plugged into the 9700 the computer wont start...the power light flashes very briefly and the fans turn round a couple of times and then nothing....dead!
I have to turn off the power at the wall to re-set it cos the result is not repeatable unless I do.
If I dont plug the extra power lead into the card the computer starts but only to display on the screen..." You have not connected the lead to the ATI graphics card correctly.
If I connect the power lead the computer seems to 'short' and stay dead.Dont read too much into the word 'short'I was just trying to give an impression of the result.

So.....I swapped my graphics cards around and put my Ti4200 into the SN45g and it works perfectly.
Then I put the 9700 pro into my SS51G and the Pro works prefectly ....so there is nothing wrong with either the SN45G or the 9700 Pro....its just that they dont want to work together.

    HELP!!!!!.......please.

Thats a strange one. We @ hexus have had silly fast CPU's, 10,000rpm disks and radeon 9800's running in most of the shuttle range!! It sounds to me more of a point black random incompatibility thing with your card, than a power supply problem, as those litle shuttle PSU's are more potent than they ever had a right to be

Let me guess... your SN45 has a Enhance PSU?

Change the PSU with your SS51....

Will give it a go.....it was on my list of elimination options.....Shuttle should have sorted this problem out by now......they've had long enough to do something.

    Enhance PSU 65W Combined Power
    Achme PSU 120W Combined Power

Thats why Enhance PSU make Probs with 9700 and higher GPUs...

No....its an achme and I have a spare one which I have also tried.....both exhibit the same problem, and yet work fine in my P4 Shuttle.
I suspect that it is a problem with the way that the Nvidia 2 chipset in the SN45G fires up the computer on power-up.

Is there a known problem with the SN45G and 9700 pros?

I have an SN41G2 (nforce2 chipset) with a rad 9700pro and that works flawlessly

There would be a long list of people who are happily running 9700's in SN45G's but there would equally be a significant but smaller list of those whos machines just will not power up with that combination.....................I,unfortunately am one of those.

postings from people who are happily running 9700s does not solve the problem for those who cant.

Not but it proves its not a board issue.

    But does it?

I have a brand new Achme 200 watt psu which I have tested on my SS51 and it works fine.
But if I put it in the SN45G with the 9700 and it trips out.
The Ati 9700 Pro is running in my SS51 fine.
But if I put it in the SN45G it trips out.
My old Ti 4200 runs with no problems at all in the SN45G.
It just seems that the combination of the SN45 and the 9700 pro doesnt want to play.

    It is so frustrating!!!

Isn't your problem if other n-force 2 shuttles of the same model work fine. looks like you may have to rma it tbh

I've already RMAed one already for the same problem two weeks back......dont know if they will wear me sending this one ( the replacement ) back as well.
I've ordered a Silentx psu....wanted one anyway.....I will see if it cures the problem,if not then the SN45 is definately going back.
