    Re: Q6600 Issues

its done 3GHZ .....xfx 680i not imposible to overclock, just need patience and the understanding in how it works ( which ive just understood) lol temps around 55ish, not bad......any more then i think water cooling is needed, im not gonna risk burning anything, 3ghz is all i wanted so im satisfied. thank you all for the help and gudies you have given me

    Re: Q6600 Issues

i dint really play around with the voltages enough, core cpu i incresead alot, & the system seemed to work when i decreaed the fsb volts from 1.4 to 1.3 and yh that made it stable to have 1334 = 3ghz

saying that when i play games for along time, the system does get hot, and im thinking bout water cooling or decreasing the volts, but il wait to see if my new graphics card changes that...... might take of a bit of weight of the cpu ....

    Re: Q6600 Issues

mmm to hot, i had some stabily issues with that, the problem is it was 55c idle and 65ish load, but during gamming like an hour or so into it the computer restarts t self and to get onto windows it required two boot efforts.....so its obv not stable , im just guessing but to make it stable wd be to add more volts to the cpu which would make it hotter and its hot enuff ! soooo ? do i go watercoooling ? ive got my eye on the bigwater 760i ..... it looks good and reviews are liking it .. Big Water 760i CL-W0121
and also im thinking about getting a new case any prefences ?
thinking about the antec 900 ? any prefences or anything obv dnt want to spend to much beacuse water cooling is around £80 which aint bad......

    Re: Q6600 Issues

Reset your overclock to default, What are you using to measure those temps? And have you stress tested it with prime?

The antec is a great case also take a look at the coolermaster cm690 which is what i use myself.

    Re: Q6600 Issues

I wouldn't want temps to get much over early 60s even with all 4 Cores @ 100%. 55 at idle seems way too hot though, even with the stock cooler. I prefer not to overvolt, as this heats the core much faster than OC'ing (10% voltage increase = 21% more heat). If you have to over-volt then you either have to tone down the OC or get better cooling.

The Antec 900 is a good case for cooling. I'd start a new thread if you want advice on water-cooling. Most people don't bother as the top air coolers are pretty good these days. IMO that watercooler looks a bit outdated though.

    Re: Q6600 Issues

Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK

This is the case i meant and it's cheaper than the antec. What cooling do you have in your current case as i had one with 2 120 fans and it's much cooler now I'm using this case.

You migh not need to go the water cooling route just yet, especially if you only want a 3Ghz overclock. Mine tops out at 55c running prime.

    Re: Q6600 Issues

I'm using a thermalright ultima 90 with this fan that staffsmike recommended.

Plus the case has 1 fan at the back and two on top taking air out and one on the side and at the front bringing air in.

What case have you got and how many fans does it have and what size are they? I think your cooler is perfectly fine, have you tried resetting it?

Mt spec is in the my system dropdown.

    Re: Q6600 Issues

I just mean taking the heatsink and fan of and putting some fresh thermal paste and putting it back on to make sure it's secure.

I did this with mine and it lowered the temps a little bit.

Your case does sound a little cramped anyway. What sort of idle and load temps are you getting now with it set to default? Are you using coretemp to measure it and are you using prime to heat up the CPU and test for stability?

    Re: Q6600 Issues

yep, its a very cramped case, im looking for a new case. something with really good cooling but alot of room. like the Antec P182. yh i will buy a new case, and see what that does to my temps, if that has little effect, and im financialy up, i will get watercooling. now to do some research on cases. thanks for the help everyone.
