Bare boards of any type, presented "as is", go dirt cheap. And even a top board in excellent condition with all the trimmings seems to go for a fraction of its purchase price. I don't really think that getting more for a board second hand is a good argument for paying more money now.
OTOH if you want to spend more money, why not if you can afford it? Luckily there were no X38s when I bought my board, or I might have been tempted.
Well i got £80 six weeks ago for my AW9D-MAX.
I would say thats a pretty big fraction.

You clearly found an idiot, seeing as it's on Scan for less than £90. But what does it prove? I don't see the AW9D-MAX as an enthusiast's board. It was high end in its day, but not at all a brilliant overclocker.
Edit: actually it really proves my point that the money you get for a board doesn't seem to be related to its quality.

I could only find one review of it, and that was rubbish (they didn't open it so no comments on components, didn't test efficiency, didn't stress it, and didn't say who built it). It could be fine, but I would see it as a risky purchase. The true test of any PSU though, is time.
