Lol, not everyone wants a high quality, great value, well supported PC? Are you suuuuure?
Right...firstly he didnt like the board when there were only early bios revisions available.
You are being far too selective in your arguments and you are trying to tell me about a board which i actually use and i doubt you have ever seen working so although i am far from expert on this board, i still have first hand knowledge of it which i dont think you do.

It didnt work for him..............so your point is what??
It works great for me as your board does for you.
What you actually decide to ommit from your post is that SuperShanks is VERY happy with his and certainly knows his stuff better than most.

The only advantage the IP35 has is price. Seeing as how price wasnt a consideration for me it didnt matter.

Mike...please understand........i didnt want a cheaper option (in my eyes) board. How is that a problem for you?

Re: New System Please Advise on spec

I wouldn't say that it a problem for me at all

Anyway it's not about you it's about giving the OP a clear view of what is avaliable and if he wants to save money without really sacrificing quality (imo) then the dark raider is a great board as is the IP-35 PRO which is still a good saving over the X38 as it's usually <£100 on scan (currently £94).

All these boards I'm sure can hit over 450MHz FSB which I think we can all agree is more than most will ever need, especially for a Q6600.

The OP actually asked about the QuadGt and i gave him a few facts that i have seen rather than read about thats all.

You are right with you last comment though. All these boards will do the job just nice

My µATX G33 can do more than 450Mhz FSB so I should hope that the P35s can as well!

Re: New System Please Advise on spec

Which IP35 board would be crossfire ready?

And I understand that if I go crossfire I cant go SLI, but then I would never go SLI coz I would never buy two cards of the same level, I would always get 1 uber card which would be primary and the second one would be just to drive my 3rd monitor, however with Crossfire, i can get a 3870, and if I want to go mad get the 3870X2

Power supply wise would any of the ones I mentioned do?

Re: New System Please Advise on spec

The corsair and enermax will certainly do the job nicely but even for two HD3870's the 520w Corsair HX would easily do that job.. honestly.

IP-35's can do crossfire at a slightly slower speed (bandwidth) than the X38 I think but, given the savings on the power supplu (if you get the 520w) and the motherboard you should be able to afford the HD3870X2 if you want serious gaming power.
dark raider this is the IP-35 I would buy.
If you go here.. today only it is £57 Don't let the price fool ou though, it is a great board.

You wouldn't be able to SLi on any of these Intel chipsets. You need either an Nvidia chipset 680, 780i etc.. or intels skulltrail which we won't be mentioning here im sure lol

What size screen and resolution are you using?

Re: New System Please Advise on spec

I would probably not go for the Coolermaster, It would probably be between the Corsair, Enermax and Seasonic.

I'm not sure which of the P35s support crossfire and which don't but if they do it will only be at 16x on one card and 4x on the second. If crossfire is a serious possibility then the x38 could be a better option with its multiple 16x PCIe slots.

According to Scans Technical Specs page the Asus P5k series all do, the more expensive (£85+) Gigabyte boards do, the Abit boards say they don't but the Pro has 2x 16x connectors (1 at 4x) so may support it.

Re: New System Please Advise on spec

I think I will stick with the Quad GT, Memory I am happy with I just want the Q6600 to hit 3GHZ and I will be happy, I will most likely be buying everything as mentioned earlier with the updated psu and memory and cpu. The list is below

Intel Q6600
OCZ 8GB (4x2GB) PC2-6400C5 800MHz Quad Channel Platinum Low Latency XTC series DDR2

Abit IX38 QuadGT Intel X38 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

Either Scythe Mine or something Equivalent
Western Digital Raptor 150GB 10000RPM
Corsair HX 620W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU (CMPSU-620HXUK)
Asus HD3870 GDDR4 (This is temp until june/july when some new more powerful graphics card come out
Antec Nine Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case

I will be ordering this from Overclockers, since I have good service from them, they dont seem to have the cooler I want, so ill probably need to get that from scan?

This is everything I am ordering:

Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W
Abit IX38 QuadGT Intel X38 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

Re: New System Please Advise on spec

I had a quick look on EBay and no-one is selling used IP35-Pros or iX38s. Looking at what S939 mobos (i.e. popular boards now superseded) are selling for it seems to be more dependant on having all the bits in a nice box, and how you present it, than it does on what the actual motherboard is.

Bare boards of any type, presented "as is", go dirt cheap. And even a top board in excellent condition with all the trimmings seems to go for a fraction of its purchase price. I don't really think that getting more for a board second hand is a good argument for paying more money now.

OTOH if you want to spend more money, why not if you can afford it? Luckily there were no X38s when I bought my board, or I might have been tempted.

Re: New System Please Advise on spec

Because Corsair PSUs are built by Seasonic and are very reasonably priced. From what I read the newest Coolermaster is an excellent PSU, but it's more expensive and we won't have any idea on its releiability for some time. Previous PSUs have been built by different OEMs to different specs.
