Overclocking problem

ok- I can overclock my Xp2200 but I can only do this by upping the FSB, when I'm reliably informed that it would be better to change the multiplier - however it won't let me - any alteration of the multiplier and my PC won't boot.

I'm running a Thoroughbred B xP2200 on an Abit KD7A KT400 board with 1gb DDR 333 - my default speed is 13.5x133, I can up the FSB to around 145, but this is causing instability and re-boots at times.


Anyone talk me through this ?

If you are running DDR 333, raise your FSB to 166 and lower your multiplyer a bit.

Try 11 x 166

you might need to do the wire mod or similar to get your mobo to boot with non-defualt multiplyers for that cpu

It sounds to me like the cpu is locked, and KT400 boards don't unlock like nforce2 can

You might be right there

I just tried the 11 x 166 suggested by Benjamin, but t wouldnt boot, so I had to clear the cmos jumper.

Wierd - I thought this cpu and board were ok for overclocking

No - would that make a difference ?

I put a XP1700 Tbred b in a KD7 for a mate and that worked fine -the bios was set up for just about any multi you wanted and it was just a case of altering multi and fsb, saving and away he went. Are you being given the full range of choices in the bios?? Have you changed the fsb:agpci ratio?

Thats set at 4:2:1 - do I need to change that ?

the ratio would only really matter if it was running at 166 and you could change the ratio to 5:2:1 as otherwise you'd be running pci at 41+. Have to say that it sounds as if the 2200 is locked but didn't think it should be. Extra voltage would only be needed if you were running faster overall speed but if you were running 11x166 shouldn't really need any more juice.

Even if you overclock your FSB from 133 to 140, thats still a 106MHz increase.
