    Another Proposed Build

Want a Cheap Gaming Computer, please take a look at GPU,Case and Ram especially.

The problem with cases is that I have a small desk in height so the case must be no more than 16.5 inches (42cm) but is very wide and long, this means I can't get cases like the Antec 900 which would be my first choice.

Also, I do know a bit about computers but the furthest I got with DIY computer hardware was upgrading a graphics card and also reformating.

Is there anywhere I can choose my exact computer specs and then they charge a certain payment to build it for you. There are places like pcspecialist.co.ukl but they have limited options for components and you can't really mix and match. Or would I be good enough to do it myself?

You can easily do it yourself m8... it really isn't that hard.

If you prefer Scan, Overclockers, Beast and some others I don't know about all do custom builds to your specifications. People have mentioned Beast are the crème of the crop but I have never used any of them so couldn't really say which is best.

For your specification I would change two things:
    GFX: Gigabyte HD4850
    Memory: 4Gb Corsair XMS2

Corsair memory because I know there customer service is good... you never know what newer memory companies are like. And the HD4850 because it is better... its newer tech and will continue to increase in performance with driver updates whereas the nVidia card won't be increasing in performance with driver updates, probably find very few driver updates for the card like I did when I bought my 512Mb 8800GTS just after it came out(nVidia are very bad with previous generation driver updates).

Other than those 2 changes your specification looks good

    Re: Another Proposed Build

I think the case might be a little tall. Scan lists the dimentions under 'technical specs' and I'm guessing 445mm is the height one. (link to the case)

I'm sure you'll be able to build it fine. I built mine with similar experience and it went with no hitches. Even if you do run into a problem there's always plenty of people here to help you out.

Apart from ExHails suggestions you could get a third party cooler for the CPU if you are planning on overclocking. Also, if you like storage space you could get a 500gb hard drive for only a tenner more, your choice though, I realise this is on a budget. As always if you're buying from Scan wait for a nice Today Only and don't forget your Hexus Free Delivery.

    Re: Another Proposed Build

Why not get an E7200 with it's 1066MHz FSB you can get a nice little overclock on boards such as this

    http://scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=754629

being uATX you can get a case more like this

    http://scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=378734

These are great quiet cases with awesome cooling with 120mm fans being so close together. It will work very well with the components you have already selected

Otherwise take a look at these
    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...er%20-%20Black

Full ATX components in the same size chassis as the TJ08B, but compomised as the motherboard has to flipped upside down and the PSU goes at the front to squeeze it all in. Graphics cooling is compromised quite badly from memory.

HDD wise I would look at the 640GB western digital AAKS. £50 and a bargain.

Yeah I know but.. it's soooo ugly (imo) lol

Thats not the major concern anyway it's getting the heat from the gfx card out.

    Re: Another Proposed Build

So would those smaller cases mean I need to get a different type of motherboard?

Also my idea was to get one which is the max height of my desk 16.5 inches and then make sure it was really long because I can only just fit a 6800 GS in my current one!

    Re: Another Proposed Build

It'll fit yeah but take serious note that even in well ventilated cases the HD4850 runs around 80 degree's idle due a the way the fan is utilised.

In a small poorly ventilated case like that it's going to be even worse as the cards choke on their own hot air.

That is why the TJ08 will make for a much better case in the long run, even with the slightly compromised (but still pretty awesome) motherboard.
