Is it possible?

I was wondering if its possible to record relatively high definition videos of gameplay or usage on a computer without impacting system performance?

Ideally it would be a lowcost solution where my Laptop would piggyback the monitor connection and record it directly on the laptop without the PC being setup differently (other than a splitter cable)

with your current setup (OC quad core, 4gb, 4850) i doubt you would even notice that it was in the background, then you could just transfer the file to your laptop. or do you definitely need it to be recorded straight to laptop? besides, does a laptop even have a video input port?

probably straight on laptop so it doent impact performance even the slightest

You could always just give it a go to see if you notice a performance hit. Game Cam is free isn't it? So you haven't lost anything if it doesn't work for you.
