That all sounds like nVidia 'fanboyism' to me...

And you clearly do not have a clue about what ATI have done - I wont go into it, most is explained in a previous post.

Let's hope this news has some truth in it, i am tired of Intel's dominance - Competition is the path to better products.

I am no nVidia/Intel fanboy btw (I've had many ATI cards and AMD CPUs, I just buy what's best at the time - in fact I am eyeing the 4870x2 as my next GPU), just adding some perspective as people seem to be jumping on any reason to hate the "big guys", including things we normally count as "good points".

But I guess if it potentially makes your next purchase cheaper, you can tell yourself whatever you want to justify it.....but to make AMD/ATI out to be the saints of the pc market is tantamount to deluding yourself. They are in the game to make money just like nVidia/Intel and will screw you out of as much as they possibly can. The FACT their products have been under-performing is the only reason they have dropped their prices, forcing others to follow suit to keep their price/performance ratios around the same points.

People tend to forget when AMD CPUs cost more then Intels (funnily enough when AMD had the performance advantage!)
I don't think anyone will deny that AMD is in business for.. well.. business. But at this time, they are hitting the price/performance sweet spot. Their 4870 runs everything on the market while hooked up to a 24" montior, it's performance is only margingly lower than the GTX 280. Their CPUs are compairable to Intel's in native mode. Their chipsets are the best in the business of any platform (particually where IGP is concerned). They also have a unified platform, which is nice from a support standpoint.

I don't think it's fair to slate their acomplishments made since their shakey aquisition of ATi. Especially since they've single handedly forced both Intel and nVidia to maintain competitiveness. And that's good for all of us.

Which, other than the HD4870 is still less than all of NVIDIAs current cards from the 9800GTX+ up.

Having now seen the Reviewage "source" website, that really is the lamest article ever. If it was any more lame it would be a quadriplegic.

about time, bit odd the model numbers are so similar to i7's (910, 920, etc) though

wonder how they'll perform, but that image about the headroom is a bit dodgy looking..

Isn't it that they can be OC'ed to 4 GHz not that they will be sold at that speed.
E8000's hit that so why not. I have read previously they are not having the problems at 45 nm
that they do at 65 nm.

    Re: Amd 45nm @> 4ghz stock ! must be a hoax?

Well there are 9950s that have done over 4Ghz so I wouldn't be too suprised if Deneb was capable of doing that, but being sold like that the moment they arrive?...seems doubtful...maybe in later revisions.

A big difference between stepping is possible given AMD's history though - the difference between 130nm and 90nm A64s was a big one.

yes true... but the link shows (if true) that at least 45mn has some headroom. but it will be sold (again if true) with an unlocked multi!!

3ghz stock would be fine with me if i had a chip that could oc to 4ghz on air!
