RAID problem: poor performance

Hi all. I was wondering whether anyone has any experience with RAID troubleshooting. I am trying to run two ATA133 WD 40Gig drives in RAID0 using a pci controller card. The only other storage device connected is my CD rom, which is set to master on IDE1 (there's nothing on IDE0).

I have been able to set up the array and install win2000pro, but the performance is woefully poor. My current (relevant) system specs are as follows:
* Albatron PX845PE pro II mobo
* 3Ghz P4 (533fsb)
* 512ram (333MHz)
* Rad98000pro
* Two WD ATA133 40Gig HDs connect to generic pci RAID controller card

The rig is much, much slower than it was before I upgraded (same mobo, 2.4GHz P4 [400fsb], same ram, rad9700). I know it's only a generic pci controller card, but the sys is currently running slower than the first pc I ever owned (pentium 200).

There must be something wrong, but it's probably something really obvious to those in the know. I've tried setting the HDs (which are on separate IDE cables to the controller card BTW) to master and cable select, but no change.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks m8. I was about to post and say that I finally managed to suss it. It appears to have been a problem with the mobo BIOS. I just updated it and the problem went away!
