problem with GFX card i think.

Hi, i was messing around with my computer last night and now it is broken(?) basically i think it has something to do with this:

so i was downloading updates for my computer, and i downloaded one for my GFX card, Sound Card now i restarted the computer and it boots and everything but then once it is fully loaded. a blue screen comes up saying it is going to shut down to prevent damage or something. i also noticed that the nvidia logo was on my icons tray. so i am assuming it has something to do with the GFX card.

things to note is that at one point it never booted. but then did but the screen resolution was the smallest. then after it booted to normal resolution i.e. max. then it went to blue screen?

does anyone know how i can install my old driver back? i.e. from the Cd i got with the card.? or will i need to get a new card?? its the 8600GTs if thats any help.

Try booting to safemode (hold down f8 whilst booting), then roll back your driver if that's possible. I can barely remember what is possible on a windows machine these days...

thanks, ill give that a try. i uninstalled the drivers and i ah restoring it. i take it you ron a mac now ?

Mac/Linux. I have a Windows machine at home, but it's been so long since something has gone wrong with it that my l33t Windows skillz have degraded somewhat...

ok thanks for that, i have fixed it. i just took the card out and reinstalled it. cant believe that i almost reformatted the thing

almost sounds like you're complaining that nothing had gone wrong. don't jinx your luck!
