    Hard drive woes

    I've got a Abit AW9D MAX mobo and just bought a Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000 1TB SATA hard drive but it doesn't seem to be recognised when going in the bois or in windows.

    Am I being stupid and need to do something before breaking the 1TB mark?

    I have tried on my mates PC to and same problem. I use Vista Ultimate 64 and he is using XP. Just wanted to ask here before RMA it, thanks.

    It may be the board is too old to recognise 1tb drives.

    *edit* Nope, they work fine with 1tb drives by all accounts

    I tried it with both the SATA power connector and the 4pin Molex with no success.

    I don't know anything about your board but, has the Sata port been enabled/is enabled in BIOS. If your using raid you might need to set it up as a single disk array.

    Another thought is, Maybe the drive is not compatible with that board? I had this problem with Nforce3 and a Maxtor maxline once, Sometimes it saw the drive and other times it did not.

    Have you tried another Sata cable just incase its a duff cable?

    Do you have the latest BIOS?

    Can you try the drive in a different PC?

    I have 4 SATA drives working fine and tried using the same working cables and power connectors.

    Looked around the internet and it seems that other people have run the Spinpoints with my mobo.

    Looked for bios updates and I'm on version 16 but there is a 17 out but Abit's website will not let me download aw9d17.zip, arggggh.

    None of my hard drives are currently in a Raid array.

    Just got the latest bios drivers and will try if that makes any difference.

    If there are no other suggestions I will RMA.
