If you are going to overclock then you ideally need after market cooling, the stock cooler will cope for mild overclocks but start upping the core voltage and it will struggle, the AC7's are very good for the money and pretty quiet too.

didn't realise the disparity between DDR2 and 3 was still so big, haven't really been looking at hardware as much since my build last christmas, been more occupied with the PS3... thanks for the info

    Re: help needed;building a pc

I have reinterpreted you spec with a few of my own ideas

    Core 2 Duo E8400 ($164.99) or E5200 ($83.99)
    Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R mobo ($119.99- $104.99 after $15.00 Mail-In Rebate)
    Corsair XMS2 DHX 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 4-4-4-12 ($74.00 - $39.00 after $35.00 Mail-In Rebate)
    ASUS EAH4850 TOP/HTDI/512M Radeon HD 4850 512MB GPU ($164.99 - $134.99 after $30.00 Mail-In
    Rebate)
    LITE-ON Black SATA 20X DVD±R DVD Burner with LightScribe - OEM ($25.99)
Western Digital Caviar Green WD10EADS 1TB SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM ($119.99)
    Corsair 450VX ($79.99 - $69.99 after $10.00 Mail-In Rebate)
Rosewill Conqueror WBK Steel ATX Mid Tower Enclosure ($69.99)
    Intel Stock CPU Cooler

Total Cost for E8400 version - $819.93 ($729.93 with MIR - not everyone likes using them)
Total Cost for E5200 version - $738.93 ($648.93 with MIR)

    All prices are from Newegg.

For a gaming machine the E5200 is a surprisingly good value processor, it has the same Wolfdale core that is in the E8400 with a lower FSB and less cache.

    Attached is a review:

Hope my thoughts have been helpful.

That Rosewill doesn't look too shabby
And you have the advantage of being in the US where you can access to quite a few thinks we never see over here in the EU and at lower prices (like Rosewill)

    another sudgestion
    Sunbeam Freezing-Storm IC-FS-BK $64
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811166038

Antec 300 $60 (although it doesn't have a side window)
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811129042

But as has been said cases are a rather personal thing esp the looks of a case.
