New mouse a downgrade?

Hey,

I got an Logitech MX518 for Christmas. Very attractive mouse, goes nicely with my G11 keyboard but I've noticed when I move it as slowly as humanly possible the distance it travels on my screen is greater than that of my older mouse (Logitech MouseMan Dual Optical) say 3px (new) vs. 1px (old).

Why is this? And can it be addressed somehow or is it something I will just have to learn to live with?

I'd be interested in this too actually, I just tried turning the sensitivity to the lowest on my Razer Diamondback (the normal version not the new special edition one), OS Windows Vista ultimate 64bit, and well, you see where just_laze's join date says "Join Date: Aug 2005", the minimum the mouse goes is from one side of the 0 to the exact middle, then to the other side, I'd say that must be about 3 pixels too. Mouse is 1600dpi optical for those that don't know razer

Surely a difference in DPI between your old and new mouse, (new one having greater sensitivty/DPI). XP and afiak Vista both have a little slider you can adjust, found in Control Panel > Mouse. Try that, maybe.

Try fiddling with the settings in Setpoint.

You should set the master windows control speed to about 4, then use the Razer driven speed to determine your overall speed - this will mean that your smallest movements will equate to 1 pixel

Use setpoint to sort it out.
I had the issue with that mouse out of the box aswell but its easy to rectify

Thanks for your advice, I figured it out myself in the end. You were all right though, it's the fancy on-the-fly DPI change that caught me out. Lowering the sensitivity in Windows and then using the mouse itself to increase pointer speed provided far better results.
