Wolfdale E8400 different stepping ?

I remember it was July 2007 when the Q6600 with a different stepping came out.
Supposed to run cooler than the previous one.

Having found an article (from Sept 08) about a change of stepping for the E8400 from C0 to E0, I was surprised because what on earth could you still improve on this CPU ?

A better overclocker ?

The following theory is not bad either ....

... Actually, it's just the last two numbers that we are concerned with ... The theory is that the closer these numbers are to "00" the better overclocker you will have. The reason behind this theory is the position on the wafer. "00" represents the closest to the center of the wafer and "99" the furthest away from center ...

Same stepping just a better clocker. Quite good theories though. I'll try and check mine to see what number it is. If only they showed it's VID...


Anyway that 5.7GHz is most likely on DICE or LN2 or maybe even phase.
