Barton 2500+: How far can you push them?

I've just order myself a pair of Barton 2500+ and a pair of XP-TMC for my main rig. Since I'm using the Tyan Tiger MPX, FSB overclocking is out of question and they'll be using a 133MHz FSB. However, I want to find out how far people have managed to push the CPU so that I've a good idea how far I can push the multipliers.

Most people can achieve 2.2ghz with a modest increase of voltage, and people have been maxing out with an average of 2.5ghz.

How much was XP-TMC and where from? You should find 2.0ghz (15x133) easily doable and almost certainly with stock voltage. After that take it 1 step at a time throughly testing at each step to ensure stability. If you find instability you need to work out whether it's heat, CPU or mobo's multiplier support. If it's heat get a better HSF, for CPU up the voltage (Barton I'd say 1.70v absolute tops again SMALL STEPS) and for mobo mult try using a lower (stable) mult with an increased FSB (but keep an eye on PCI & RAM speeds).

My Barton 2500+s arrived this morning still no sign of the XP-TMCs... They shouldn't be long now - just a matter for the air-mail to get here.

I also considered Bytewize so let me know how you get on, IIRC pricing was £24 for the adapter alone and £33 for the HSF too, that's all inclusive (P&P, taxes etc). Out of interest, what mobo and chipset are you using the TMC with?

At last!! My pair of XP-TMC have arrived this morning. Each comes with a customer cleat extender which means that I can use my existing HSFs... The plan is to experiment with the MSI K7D Master to see if it works and find out how far I can push things. After that, and if successful, I'm planning to move my entire Main Rig onto the K7D and use the Tiger MPX has my 2nd dual Athlon rig.

Not heard of a TMC either.

Many early 2500+ bartons were said to have a hard time getting past 2Gighz.

I took my brothers to 2.1Ghz and 58C before I decided not to try any more at that heat. The same heatsink cooled a 2.2Ghz TBirdB at <58C so basically I would say watch the heat with a 2500+. You may find the chips peak (at increased volts) outstreaching a cheap heatsinks capability to cool it.
