.... what kind of spec would I be looking at for £400 at the moment?
I don't need a monitor, keyboard, mouse etc. Just the tower. Mainly used for gaming.

I'd build an AMD system.

7750 X2 ~£60
4GB PC6400 ~£35
Asus 780G ~£50
Antec Nsk3480 ~£65
640GB WD AAKS ~£50
LG DVD ~£15
HD4850 or 9800GTX ~£120

Intel would just be E5200 and suitable motherboard for the same sort of money.

Antec 300, E5200, Cheap PSU(obviously not a £20 1kw modular), 4GB RAM, mobo and a small HDD?

£500 can get you a Q6600, P31 mobo, 4GB RAM, 4850, 500GB HDD and a half decent case/psu combo

Hmm, everything seems more expensive then it used to be, the Antec 300 has gone up from £30 to £50 and the Western Digital 640Gb seems to of gone up from £50 to £60. Might wait until the price drops a bit. Thanks for the help anyway guys.

Today only AAKS is £51.

Coolermaster CM-690 is £50 as well if you are going to spend that on a case.

Yes I think it's mainly down to the fact that the pound has fallen so much against the dollar and a lot of the old stocks have now been sold.

You could save a little by only going for 2gb of memory as it's still good for most gameing.
