OCing AMD X3 720 BE

Hi,

Just wondered what speeds people have been getting and whether its best to just change the multi or to OC the FSB as well, ie a bit of both?

I was running stably (intel burn test was running for about 6 hours before i had to go to bed) @ 3.5GHz with +0.15v (17.5 multi, 200FBS) but 3.6GHz was needing more voltage - whats the max voltage people would go for, and what sort of temps??

I was running mine at 3ghz @ 1.325volts. I think it's best to go for multiplier first, then try getting a little more from the FSB ?

According to AMD the max. is 1.425volts but, I've seen others using 1.5volts.

what is the production date of your CPU? Have you managed to unlock the 4th core?

I would look at lowering the HT frequency before you up the fsb so that you have more headroom.

Im very pleased to inform you ive just managed to unlock the 4th core and its running at 3.2GHz @ stock voltage but i dont know how stable it yet!!!

Is this using the Biostar board? I got a test BIOS from J&W for the 790GX board but, so far all I've managed to do is make the board unable to load BIOS on start up. Luckily, I recovered it from the back up BIOS.

yuh, the biostar one, im pleased i went for it now - was cheaper too!!

and my pc hasnt crashed so far, ill leave intel burn test on overnight

I hope the fourth core is stable!! The Biostar 790GX motherboards seem to be quite good at unlocking the Phenom II X3 710 and 720 from what I have read.

I am a bit dissapointed about the BIOS not supporting unlocking better!! Sorry.....!

I blame the Moose...!

Actually, I retract blaming the Moose as I am worried about incurring the wrath of Moose who may plummet on me!! As you know Moose are vertically challenged!!

Yeah, That seems to be it for the boards that are capable of unlocking the 4th core. The J&W board has a Jumper marked JHDT which I'm not sure on it's use and the manual does not give an actually description of it's use. It just says, overdrive or normal ?

They have sent me a test version of a new BIOS to try.

I'm still happy with the board, After all, I bought it for a x3 as a x3. If it unlocks it just a bonus, If not I won't worry.

Does anyone know any reason why my settings are stable in windows and the motherboard works fine after i save settings and start up but when I shut down and then switch on later it says bad checksum and resets all the settings??

Am i missing something?

Well, had a go with the new BIOS today. Set the jumper to over drive, flashed BIOS to test version set ACC to auto and that's it. Board won't POST or anything after that. So have re-flashed from the back-up BIOS.
