Re: Router Frustration - Port opening
iv tried that with the Windows firewall (all iv got) and it still seems to block it. How do i turn the router firewall off? Tbh id live with disabling the router firewall when i want to play and relying on windows firewall to stand guard for the hour or so i play now & then. :)
AFAIk the router doesn't support uPNP, cant find any mention of it.
edit; Checking the routers FAQ it does have uPNP, having enabled it nothing seems to have changed! :(
Re: Router Frustration - Port opening
Personally I wouldn't rush to turn the firewall off...
...do you have more than one PC at home? If so then first off try connecting to the PC in question from another PC. You can use telnet or similar, e.g.
telnet <ip address of PC in question> <port>
or
telnet 192.168.100.2 6112
Or you could just install the game on the other PC and test it internally first. If that works you've almost certainly elminated Windows firewall as the problem and you need to look more closely at the hardware router - and here again I have to ask if you have looked at the logging facilities in the router to see if it's logging the inbound connection attempts / rejections?
Re: Router Frustration - Port opening
NOTE: I'm crap at networks, but I shall stick my oar in incase I hit the nail!!
Does your PC have a fixed IP? When you boot up your PC the router will give you the next IP address available, so you need to fix your own IP address to a static one, not assigned.
Then when assigning these ports on your router, you prolly have to tell it WHICH IP your PC is.
I do on my router (Draytek) for game servers.
edit: looking at that screeny, the ported IP is 192.168.2... but IS that ip range your PC or another that's still plugged in or wifi'd to you?
Re: Router Frustration - Port opening
How can i check my Ip address, everytime i run ipconfig i get the same ipv4 address, which is the address i entered into the router control panel (198.168.2.7). Is that the one?
As for the security log, it means nothing to me but hopefully someone will be able to figure it out! :)

Re: Router Frustration - Port opening
You need to capture the log when someone's trying to connect to a game you are hosting. Would help if you know what their external IP is too.
Edit:
What model is your router / do you have a link to a soft copy of your manual?
Re: Router Frustration - Port opening
It is a Belkin Wireless G router;
http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProdu...duct_Id=203415
I don't know anyone else with the game and they would have no way of seeing my game (it simply isn't listed AFAIK) in terms of trying to connect to it.
A big thank you for your help mate! :)
edit; the manual:

Re: Router Frustration - Port opening
No problem. Din dins time now - will read the manual in a bit.
Re: Router Frustration - Port opening
Excellent, thank you in advance mate! :)
Re: Router Frustration - Port opening
OK... I've read through what I think are the relevant sections of the manual:
http://www.belkin.com/support/articl...=6131&scid=221
But the examples are all for a slightly different version of the firmware / interface. That said the virtual server set up appears to be correct though I couldn't see the full width of the screen in the shot you posted (in page 1 of this thread) - can you post the full thing so I can see what (if anything) the other fields are? Also do you still have the ports opened up in the "Application Gateways" screen?
Re: Router Frustration - Port opening
These are the screenies, i am still stuck for ideas as to what could be causing it. I still cant get my head around why it is quite so difficult aswell, if a firewall can simply be set to allow a program, why cant a router?
All ports are still opened with uPNP still enabled.

Re: Router Frustration - Port opening
Try disabling the open ports in the Application Gateways screen but leave them active in the Virtual Servers screen - it's not normal to need both (though it could just be a weird config on the belkin / whatever it actually is under the badge).
Can you start the game / server too so that it's got the ports open? You can confirm the ports are open on your PC by running "netstat -an" and looking for "LISTENING" ports (obviously with port numbers 6112 to 6119).
Re: Router Frustration - Port opening
I ran that and this is what came up, couldn't figure out how to tell which port is open so figured id post the screen here;
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3..._/Capture4.jpg
Thanks again for doing this mate, i really appreciate it! :)
edit; Wc3 will let me select which port to use, if you can advise me on a port that is open/can be opened easily i would quite happily swop to that one! :)
Re: Router Frustration - Port opening
Is the game actually running and acting as a server / hosting a game in the background? It should be listing the ports if so but I don't see anything in the 6000 range at all... I presume that's all the input and there's nothing lower down?
Re: Router Frustration - Port opening
That was without me hosting a game, sorry. I redid it with Wc3 up & running and me hosted a game (no body joins, due to it not showing AFAIK). I went through the list again and its grown by about 50% but there is no mention of any ports in the 6000 range, at all.
Re: Router Frustration - Port opening
Weird. I presume you can join other people's games OK? Do you happen to know what the warcraft 3 executable / process is called? Leave the game running (and hosting) and try "netstat -anb". The added -b option should show which processes (process IDs and executables) are responsible for each port.
Re: Router Frustration - Port opening
I ran that and Wc3 did come up, under port 2869 (screen 2 follow).
edit;
SOAB, i feel like a right royal tit now. Checked the wc3 settings and id changed the port to 1863. Changed it back to 6112 and it works fine now, my sincere apologies mate! :embarrassed:
A very big thank you for your time & patience though, really appreciate it! :)
