386SX running at 16MHz (yes thats an M guys n gals!). It had 3 Mb RAM and the video card had a whacking 512Kb memory. 30 Mb hard disk and it cost me over £1300!

It had both 3 1/2" and a 5 1/4" floppy and no CD-ROM coz they werent around then.

It cost me an another £170 to get a maths co-processor for it (called the FPU these days)

No idea... I remember Janitor Joe and Bouncing Babies though? Some COMPAQ thing I think. Or that might've been a bit later with windows... I was very young.

Re: What spec was your first PC?

First PC I had was a good old 8086, 20mb hard drive, 5.25" floppy drive, CGA monitor (that means four colours at once, for you young 'uns). 640K memory - I think. No mouse. Beeps for sound. Got it through my dad's work, but the price new would have been (drum roll) about £2,000. 9pin dot-matrix printer that took tractor-feed paper was another £350. Games? Flight Simulator II. Zork. Space Wars. Much later, Police Quest/Space Quest/etc. By rough guesstimating, I think this was 23 years ago.

Moved up to an Amiga 500. I remember when the add-on hard drive (I think it was 300-400MB) was £399.99. A 512K RAM expansion was something insane like £99.

After many years as a die-hard Amiga user, built my first PC when the Amiga had pretty much died off. I think that was something like a P200.

Planning my next PC build early next year, which is probably going to have something like 4GB RAM and a 2TB hard drive. So that's over 100,000 times the hard drive space and over 6,500 times the memory for a lot less than half the cost. Why don't we have flying cars yet?

Well, as we're comparing to PCs, maybe because they'd crash far too often?

It'd bring a whole new perspective to "blue screen of death", wouldn't it?

Oh and btw the p2 was of course my first "IBM Compatible PC".

My first PC was actually a Spectrum 48k but I imagine that's going to open a whole new can of worms.

386SX I think. Bought it during 2nd year of Uni. Was the best I could afford at the time (1991).

    First actual PC was 1991..a 386sx 25mhz with 1mb memory and 20mb hard drive..cost me 600 quid..arrrgh!
Had loads of fun with it though.

First computer was a borrowed Apple in 1978..followed by about 50 or so different computers up until PC's arrived as they are now.

Speccy was my favourite of the lot.

Re: What spec was your first PC?

First x86 PC I bought was a venerable Kolvox with an Intel 386SX running at either 25MHz or 33MHz (I'm still not sure why "turbo" buttons existed) a eyewatering 4MB of ram, a 50MB HDD and some ISA model of Cirrus Logic for graphics. All of the external ports were on riser cards, a CD-ROM drive got wedged in there at horrendous cost, and I loved it at the time, it was the most powerful computer I'd ever got my hands on. Still have the CPU, made it into an ornament!

First computer? I think it was a Toshiba MSX, another Microsoft project that died a hard death. That was a very odd computer indeed, although it introduced me to programming so I can't be too hard on the poor thing.

My first x86 PC was a Dell Dimension with a Pentium 75, 4MB Ram, 500MB HD, Dual Speed CD, Sound-Blaster 16 and S3 Trio 64 Graphics. And came with Windows for Workgroups 3.11.

Cost £1550 + VAT at the time. God my parents were good to me!

Re: What spec was your first PC?

My first pc was also a 486>33mhz with 4mb of ram, I am sure my first upgrade was extra 4mb of ram for £100 and a cd rom @ 4x for £100. Oh how things have changed since then. Dont even remeber what my sub 100mb hard drive size was.

Same story for me really - I was bordering on rabid in my Amiga loyalty way back when, and can remember clearly the endless cycle of excitement then disappointment that I went through each time the company was bought, stagnated, then sold.

Still, nothing beat the buzz of completing a round of '3D Monster Maze' on my ZX81 without the whole thing resetting due to 16k ram pack wobble.

Re: What spec was your first PC?

My first family computer was a 486 (I'm pretty sure 33mhz) and I don't know the specs, I was too young.

My first computer given to me was a gateway with an intel Xeon 1.4Ghz 512MB Rhambus and 40GB HD

The first computer I ever built (for myself) was a BIOSTAR PT880 with 2x512MB Corsair XMS, Intel P4 Prescott 3.2

The Biostar board eventually died from a BIOS corruption, so I got an ASUS, and I haven't stopped building computer since.
