Overclocking my Q6600

I have decided that it's time to try and overclock my Q6600 since 2.4Ghz is starting to feel a bit slow for me. I'm gonna be overclocking using CPUCool (if you know of a better software let me know) since PB locks the bios to prevent OC'ing.

I have the GO stepping version of the CPU, right now im gonna start messing with the settings to se what i can get, it'll probably just be a mild OC until i can get a new heatsink - still using stock atm - but i would like to try and achieve at least 3.0Ghz.

So have you guys got any advice for me or any experience with overclocking Q6600's to give me an idea of the possibilities.

get a better heatsink first. and if your motherboard has locked overclocking, there's probably a reason for that. 3GHz is usually pretty easy to achieve with a Q6600 though .

Yop of this forum has a very good guide by Clunk. Its the C2D overclocking one.

Reaching 3GHz should be a doddle. Pretty much just a case of turning up the FSB from 266MHz to 333MHz, and keeping the multiplier at 9. However, make sure you don't accidentally ridiculously overclock your RAM... you may have to adjust a FSB : DRAM divider to keep your RAM at 800 MHz (or whatever).

Oh yes, and definitely get a better heatsink. A G0 running at 3GHz will be outputting ~120 Watts if it's fully loaded.
