    Silent AMD x3 cooler

    Hi

    i am looking for a silent AMD x3 cooler (I have a 720be)

my current stock cooler keeps it very cool - about 30'c idle and 45 load
but while it is not very loud, it is not quiet either.

so im looking for a silent cooler, but am handicapped by the fact that a full
tower wont fit in my case (I have about 140mm height)

    I saw this: http://www.quietpc.com/gb-en-gbp/pro...ooling/zipang2

but it seems rather expensive. this is another option: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Arcti...p-to-130-Watts!

but i have heard mixed things about it.

    can you offer any suggestions?

    thanks a lot

The Akasa Nero is supposed to be quite a good cooler for the price:

    Re: Silent AMD x3 cooler

Problem is the Akasa Nero is higher than 140mm.

No 120mm tower fan cooler will fit in your case, the best you're going to be able to get is a 120mm/140mm fan cooler that blows air downwards.

Scythe Shuriken is probably what you need:
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Scyth...M2-AM2plus-940

With coolers, the more expensive they are the better they usually are so the one you listed earlier may be better but seeing as you said it's a bit expensive it's worth considering this one.

I remember another cooler like this by Scythe that has a 140mm fan but their cooler names are impossible to remember and I can't seem to find it.

EDIT: Ah it seems there's two versions of the Scythe Shuriken, the rev B which is the one I listed above and the normal one with a 120mm fan. I think this is the one I mentioned before. 120mm fans are usually quite a bit quieter than 92mm fans, I've had no experience of 100mm fans though.

This one is also worth a look:

It lists them by height, so you can quickly see which ones will fit in the case.

    Re: Silent AMD x3 cooler

    ok thanks for the replies.

i like the look of the Scythe Shuriken, since it is so quiet, but
I am confused between which version to get.

rev b has a 100mm fan, which seems odd, so should I get the 120mm rev a
since the fan would be easier to replace?

    thanks again

To be honest, the bigger the fan is, the quieter it's going to be - assuming they're of similar build quality (which is likely). So I'd go for the 120mm for that reason alone.
