    TDK make HDs? 0_0

It's been almost a year since the launch of 2TB monsters, and I was wondering if between all the talks of newer and ever faster (but hardly cheaper) SSD drives, I may have missed an announcement of the next big storage drive (they aren't going anywhere soon).

So I decided to Google '2.5TB drives' and came across some news articles mentioning that TDK is readying a 2.5TB drive for early 2010. I know TDK mainly as a media/media reader (cassettes to Blu-Ray) manufacturer, but do not recall that they've ever made a HD. Puzzled, and wondering if I missed a take-over, I decided to Google 'TDK hard drives'. I found more news announcements (all dated 08/09) mentioning the (supposedly) soon to be released drive. None of the articles I've read commented that we have a new player.

Is anyone else as puzzled/surprised, or did I miss a chunk of history here?

I wouldn't expect to see an actual TDK drive, i suspect they will just sell the tech to another manufacturer.

They seem to be more of a research house tehse days, they've been doing a lot of work on multi layer BluRay, I think they managed to get up to 10 layers on one disk in the lab, making for 250GB recordable media.
