Will a AMD Phenom II X4 955 be ok for gaming?

Hi as my Motherboard is starting to show some real cold boot issues (ie wont turn on for ages and usually only after I turn the powersupply off at the back) I am thinking of droping my Intel Duo Core in favour of an Amd chip with new Motherboard instead of investing in a new 775 motherboard.
I have not used AMD for years and am wondering how they perform in real life gaming I know I can look up benchmarks and stuff but their is usually a lot of difference between a benchmark and real life performance. So will a Phenom II 955 cut it as a gaming chip?

you could make do with something a lot worse than a 955,

but if that is what you are aiming at money wise make sure it is a c3 stepping for better power draw

not just the 965's. they make 955's that was as well now. have done for a while actually - it was only the initial WOW that went to the 965's. wouldn't be surprised if they are making nothing but C3's now for the quads, whatever they bin em at
