An HD5770 1GB actually has lower power consumption at peak than a normal 9800GT:

However, since you have a bus powered 9800GT it is hard to say how well your PSU will cope TBH!
I assume you got this card off Ebay??
If you could give us a review of this card it would be great!
hey thanks for the info, no i was going for ebay, but i found kikatek had it, not used them before, but hopefully it should be here ton tuesday. dabs sell them only in pairs... and i hear other online places are getting stock this week. i paid £128 no idea if that will be a good price, but it was understanding they would be around £10 / £20 more than the standard 5770

Well there is a 6 pin PCIe power connector coming out of the PSU, so they must have expected a reasonably powerful card to be plugged in.
ETA: Just noticed you are running a 965 quad core in that shuttle? That makes things rather marginal and ISTR from looking for a possible replacement PSU for the wife's Shuttle (she had the same model) the 450W upgrade PSU was about 90 quid!
Other option is to get a more powerful external psu, but that has its own issues too.
A good site for more info is http://www.sudhian.com/
All the best.
