    Christmas Prezzy 1

Now this one is for me.

The girlfriend has asked me what I want for crimbo.

I, of course, have said an SSD. She has, after much mumbling and grumbling..."bloody computer, why do you need that etc etc"...agreed to finance my next update

I am going to go for either the

    60 GB Corsair Force F100
    or
    60 GB OCZ Vertex 2E

But which? they both look the same on paper and in reviews there is little to separate them.

Has anybody here have one of these and what are they like. Are there any negatives that you have found using them.
Of course I'm perfect you just need to lower your expectations.

Apparantly the failure rate of both is peculiarly high. I would go for the Crucial C300 personally.

Is it indeed! Hmmm...I discounted that because of the lower write speed but I will go away and do some more comparisons methinks.

I have a C300 and it's fine for a OS drive, the amount of writing I do to it means I don't really notice the relatively slow write speed.

I read a really good review on Anandtech about these and even with the "relatively slow" write speed they are still massively quicker than a HDD

    Re: Christmas Prezzy 1

I've had my 60 GB OCZ Vertex 2E since the beginning of August and have not had any problems with it beyond the format problem which I caused myself. The Performance has not dropped much if any.

I almost bought a Corsair one until someone pointed out about them not always being recognised by the BIOS.

Then I was trying to decide between the Crucial C300 64GB and the OCZ Vertex 2E, I bought the Vertex because I thought the extra write speed would be a bonus, Of course I cannot say if it makes any difference as I don't have a C300 to compare it with.

All I can say is, I'm very happy with the Vertex and it exceeded my expectations when I finally formatted it correctly.

Don't forget you won't get the max read speed with the C300 unless you have SATA 3 and even then someone here said it was slower than SATA 2 using a PCI SATA3 card. (I can't remember who said it now)

Id see if she will give you an IOU for christmas! As i recall reading that intels new drives along with new sandforce controllers will be on sale january 2011? Im waiting for them as they should drive the price down further and intels drives always seem to be regarded very highly but their current drives have lacked the performance offered by the latest sandforce.

Her...wasn't it a OCZ you were getting?! It says Intel.

Me...It is an OCZ...it has an Intel chip...Intel are probably paying them to advertize.

    Me...NO!

    Her... !

    Me...NO!

    Her... !

Me...Yes! No!....Yes...but it is better and you did get those boots because I didn't buy it in October.

    Re: Christmas Prezzy 1

Haha that sounds like a good plan then aye? Even if the dates are wrong or if the drives get delayed you will still get it cheaper, if you get it before january i.e at boxing day. The vertex 2 and corsair drives are already down to £90, they were £110 2 weeks ago .
