New RAM system crashing !

Hello,

As some of you may know i have just installed 1Gb of RAM to my brothers PC.

The RAM is 512MB DDR400 PC3200 RAM (major brand) got 2x sticks of it.

Running in a Abit BD7-RAID mobo with a P4 1.8A CPU.

System is crashing all the time, just complety freezing

I just set the timings to the lowest, 2.5, 7, 3, 3 and its still crashing. Was set to SPD before and was still crashing.

Can you people suggest anything else to try ?

Should i try giving it some more voltage, its at 2.5v at the moment.

Also i should add i have not overclocked anything yet !

What brand is the RAM? (or major, as in a the name is "Major Brand"....)
Have you tried each stick individually?
Run www.memtest86.com to test the sticks.

Could try using a memory testing program such as Memtest to make sure it is the RAM.

What chipset is the motherboard? Certain motherboards don't like certain brands of RAM. What brand is it?

also try the RAM in diff slots. some mobos dont like some RAM in certain slots n stuff.

Running that www.memtest86.com program now in DOS

Running it on 1 stick of 512Mb, how long should it take been going for 30 minutes now.

Right found something out

If i run the system with just 1 stick of RAM it works fine.

Can be either stick, as long as its running by itself.

As soon as i run the system with both 512Mb sticks system crashs after a few minutes

Any ideas ?

Have you moved each of the sticks in other slots...so 1+2, then 1+3, then 1+4 (if you have that many) then 2+4, 2+3?

Only got 2 slots for RAM on mobo.

So when both sticks are in no more slots to play around with.

Gonna call the people i brought it from later today.
