    just a couple of questions......

bought another 512mb stick of 2700 for my shuttle the other day, installed it and all is running sweetly just wondered of there was an way of checking that its running in dual channel? and if it is how well its running?

I also ordered (should arrive tommorow ) an xp2700 which runs at the same kinda clock speeds as the xp3000. I know the bartons have an extra 256k of cache but will this make a huge difference?

use sandra to test the memory.

bartons tend to run the equivalent of approximately 100-200Mhz faster in most applications.

You're already paying for the extra performance - it's included in the price of the chipset and hence the motherboard...

I think he was talking about the overclocking the extra few hundred mhz.

which is pretty much free unless you go into water cooling or something equally expensive.

i was referring to overclocking the TBred rather than the benefits of using dual channel ram (as i assume you are referring to), apologies for not making myself very clear in the first place.

Barton is roughly 5% faster clock for clock than the Tbred although it varies depending what you do. If you don't mind o/c'ing then anything other than XP1700+ TbredB, XP2100+ TbredB or XP2500+ Barton is a waste though (other than for guaranteed stock perf). The unlocked nature of the Barton & TbredB along with 0.13mu process AND combined with the 9 layer design means practically all of them can do at least 2.1ghz with normal voltage (1.60-1.65v). 2.3ghz isn't unheard of by any means (even with the slowest rated chips of the cores) and it only takes 2.2ghz & 400FSB to make a Barton XP3200+ or a TbredB an unofficial XP3000+.

    TbredB XP1700+ £40ish
TbredB XP2100+ £50ish (great for mobos without mult or volt adj)
    Barton XP2500+ £70ish

Tom what type of temps do you get with those o/c's (and voltages)? Also what speed is your Volcano 11 running? Thanx.
