You are forgetting that the HD5770 1GB has had around a year of driver improvements which has increased performance over initial reviews.

The review was done in Novemmber 2010 BTW.

The OP has stated that they want to play Black Ops too so the HD4890 1GB is not a good choice in this instance.

Agreed, if you're focusing on blackops it's a bad idea, plus the HD4890 is very inefficient as well, so I wouldn't recommend it, especially now it's EOL'ed, but even with newer drivers I've never seen the 5770 even beat the 4870 before, let alone the 4890.

    Re: AMD or Intel

Starcraft II also runs better on the HD5770 1GB when compared to an HD4890 1GB:

    http://www.techspot.com/review/305-s...nce/page4.html

I suspect that certain games may have better optimisation too for the HD5000 series than the HD4000 series.

In BBFC2 the HD4870 is faster than an HD5770:

    http://www.techspot.com/article/255-...nce/page4.html

Anyway,a GTX460 768MB would be a better choice overall when compared to an HD5770 1GB.

Having said that the HD6850 1GB is good value at around £130.

    Re: AMD or Intel

I'd like to know what thoughts are on comparing the Radeon HD 5750 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 (Vapor X), the GTS 450 and HD5670. (these are allready pushing the budget !)

I thought my components list was within budget!

    Re: AMD or Intel

Don't buy a Vapor X HD5750, Sapphire's non-ref stuff is awful. Stick with reference designs or at the most, use XFX instead. Of those cards, the GTS450 is the fastest, the HD5750 is in the middle, and the HD5670 at the bottom. The HD5770 is the competitor to the GTS450.
