    Case for a 1TB system

Ok so im nearing the magic 1 terra bytes now and my case is going to have to be upgraded. I have 5 hard disks currently but am going to get 2 more soon.

    1) 1st question is, are there any good looking cases that have space for this amount of HD's

    2) How the hell do I keep these disks cool? I could fry an egg on them at the moment

    Any help would be apreciated.

Zagme, HD Cooldrive chassis are pretty nice, i think Maplins do a budget version which is significantly cheaper than the coolermaster one.

But 1 question why do you need a terrabyte of storage?. What have you got on there?, that you actually need?

Well, without breaking any forum rules I collect sci-fi tv series which I save on a media server upstairs. Then I stream the series/movies/music from the server to my living room and my kiss dp-500 divx hardware player.

Its a complete entertainment system, only problem is backups and the ever increasing data, iv upgraded the hardware month on month. My next purchase is the 300gb maxtor 5400rpm disk drive so I need more space

can't it play dvds with divx's on?, buy a dvd writer and do it that way?, surely that must be a better option?.

another vote for the pc70, tons of room with good cooling from stock, but a couple of cooldrives will help

Buy a DVD-R or suffer the consequences of a dead harddisk. You have been warned

Ive got 4 CD folders worth of stuff id never trust a harddisk to keep the data "safe".
I dont like sig pics so i turn off sigs Which doesnt help when i dont know what ive written here! DOH!

Indeed never trust anything that is basically a spinning disk with a stepper motor inside

well i used to use cds and now dvds for playback and archiving but they wear out too unfortunatly. The convinience of having all the hard disks in one place is nice too.

I like the look of the Lian-li pc70 case, a little expensive but prob worth it for the space gain. I will check Ebay for one.

Is there a cheap place to get 5 1/2" to 3 1/2" hard disk racks?

*edit, ok i see the cooldrive chassis fit into a 5 1/2 bay. Looks like thats my choice then

In reference to the raid, I keep the os on a 60gb partition and all the install files on a 2nd seperate 60gb partition so I can reinstall the OS pretty quick, done this a few times already

I run raid 5 at work and its prety bitchin' but you loose a bit of capacity and the speed is only really needed for corporate file seeking aplications.

/me falls off chair on the fact we "agree" :worried:

Zag - im not saying keep it all on harddisk, but please please please invest in something that can back it all up just incase. I agree though - playing off harddisk is so much easier.

Stoo - mind if i salivate with you? Bluurusfugfgughdghh..
