    Re: Samsung 2TB HD204UI Firmware

Having just taken delivery of two of these drives from Scan today - it would appear that these were manufactured in Feb 2011 - is there any way to tell if I'll actually need to run the firmware update on these please, or would you just go ahead and do it anyway?
    Cheers all

    Re: Samsung 2TB HD204UI Firmware

Hi, just got 2 today from Scan (ordered yesterday, none in stock day before), mine do say 2011.05 on them.
With FW prob, done a bit of Googling etc, one of things found:-

    http://smartmontools-support-list.24...td6272045.html

One thing peeps flash patch & FW version as shown with say HD Tune etc, don't change. Plus what FW version should it show.

One weird find, someone posted a way to check date of drive, check with Samsung Warranty Checker. So had a mess:-

    http://www.samsung.com/global/busine.../warranty.html

Comes up Code103 'The product has been brought in from outside of this service region and cannot be serviced. Please contact your reseller or distributor' . Mind does say on Scan product details RTB 3yrs, no period to return/ contact Samsung, as i think case can be.

Same with HD204UI (all it says on drives i have), or HD204UI/Z4 etc, few things on that as well, like:-

More info, but can't find links.

    Cheers BOB

You could check them with Crystal disk info or a similar program.

Maybe because they are OEM drives?

    Re: Samsung 2TB HD204UI Firmware

Hi, unfortunately No, OEM's have there own Code & are supported/ can be serviced. Knew after i posted should have mentioned that. To me looks like all warranty with Scan ?
Just used HD Tune because others had used it, used to use HDTach, think i might try that Crystal Disk.
One thing FW version indicated by HD Tune is diff for both drives, same as others with 2 of the same drives have seen. One not formatted/ allocated etc when checked, came up something like 0001, other checked when formatted etc, comes up 1AQ10001.
Ah Ah, both formatted now, allocated, named No1 & No2, both come up FW Version 1AQ10001, so looks like HD Tune (or maybe others), prob don't read FW correctly if drive not formatted/ allocated etc. Strange thou.

    Cheers BOB
