    First Pc Build, help please!

    Hey guys,

This is basically going to be my first build, I have kind of already chosen the parts I'd like to buy, however i need someone who is more educated in this section to comment of my rig set up? Does everything seem ok with it?

I know I havent chosen a graphics card yet, I have a 8800GS for the meanwhile until the 560TI goes down in price a bit, might even look into SLI them

Anyways any help or advice would be appreciated, and i thank you for your help!

    polesp

PS: My max budget is about £700 excluding the graphics card

    Here is my selection:
    1TB Samsung HD103SJ Spinpoint F3, SATA 3Gb/s, 7200rpm, 32MB Cache, 8.9 ms, NCQ, OEM £39.95

    4GB (2x2GB) Corsair Vengeance DDR3 PC3-12800 (1600), Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 9-9-9-24, XMP, 1.50V £42.19
    Asus P8P67 Pro Rev3, Intel P67, S1155, PCI-E 2.0 x16, DDR3 2200(OC), SATA 6Gb/s, SATA RAID £140.00
Intel Core i7 2600K Unlocked, 1155, Sandy Bridge, Qd Core, 3.4 GHz, GPU 850Mhz, 8MB Cache, 95W, OEM
Coolermaster Hyper 212 Plus, 4 Heat Pipes, with 120mm Quiet Fan LGA775/1155/1156/1366/AM2/AM2+/AM3

The only thing that bothers me is the case, do you really need a case of this size? No SSD, one would make that Pc Fly.

    Why the 2600K?

Could you just not get a 2500K and overclock?

Do you mean it should be bigger? I considered getting a HAF932 but then went for this as its smaller and more space saving, i will soon get a ssd just need to save some money for it etc

I just wanted to be a bit future proof etc I also do a bit of video editing autocad and matlab etc ill most likely overclock the 2600l a bit more aswell

autocad, matlab want RAM - the more the better, and for matlab i would imagine a multicore processor with some welly. 2600k is ok, but an i7-950 will prob give better performance under heavy mathematical computations as you get better RAM performance with nehalem I think. Do check how well matlab uses multiple cores. This might be one of the rare times it is better to go with nehalem over sandy bridge.

Yes, the 2600K is the way to go then. The case is fine i was just looking at cost cutting.

The 2600K's raw performance for me out weighs any RAM benefits of the Nehalem Core i7's.

Since you still got a bit of money left, you should really try and squeeze a SSD in. Putting just the OS and a few apps makes the whole pc so much faster.
